In recent years, four editions of the JCF have been dedicated to the elements. We have shown you how earth, water, fire and air function in the Jewish tradition and what they mean, both symbolically and practically.
With this year’s edition we begin a new thematic cycle. You will learn about the different facets and faces of Jewish spirituality and mysticism: from Kabbalah to Hasidism, from Safed to Borough Park, from Rabbi Joseph Karo to Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks.
We will begin our journey through spirituality with the most important prayer – Shema Yisrael and the Ahava / Love that always accompanies this prayer. How seldom we need now to listen, to be heard, to love and to be loved.
Inspirations from mystical books
The graphic design of this year’s edition is based on a series of mystical diagrams inspired by illustrations from Kabbalistic books. Focusing on the motto – Shema Yisrael – we reflect on its meaning in the context of listening, hearing and loving. The colours used also refer to mindfulness, to the energetic emanation of the aura.
Listen and hear
For many years, the graphic materials promoting the Festival were primarily artists, this year we shifted the focus to the audience. We look at how they listen to words and music, what emotions and experiences accompany them in their interaction with Jewish culture.
