Throughout the chapters they are seeking each other and at the same time hiding from one another. We wonder if they will ever meet and consummate their love. The rabbis were flummoxed as to why this book was included in the holy Canon of the Bible. Some even sought to remove it, but Rabbi Akiva came along and stated that while every book of the Bible is holy, the book of Shir Hashirim is the ‘holy of holies’. What makes it so? What are the divine truths which emerge from this love story? That is the topic of our two lectures.
