Is the Golden Age of American Jews Ending? Understanding Antisemitism in the United States Today (EN/PL)

28.06.2024 - 14:00 / Festival Tent, ul. Józefa 36

A prevalent concern in American public discourse explores how rising antisemitism on both the right and the left threatens to end a period of unprecedented safety and prosperity for Jews in the United States and to imperil the liberal order they helped establish. Bay Area civic leader Moses Libitzky and author Shana Penn, both actively involved in Jewish life in the United States and especially in the San Francisco Bay Area where they each reside, will discuss the surge in antisemitism across the U.S. in recent years and specifically in the “post-October 7” period. Join them in discussing old myths in a new era and effective civil rights advocacy.

Moses Libitzky, the son of Lodz Holocaust survivors, was born in a displaced persons camp in Germany. He is a real estate developer, civic leader, and philanthropist with a long-held commitment to Holocaust remembrance, American Jewish life, and Israel.

Shana Penn is the executive director of Taube Philanthropies, which has been active in Poland since 2004. She is the author of works on gender and Jewish studies subjects, most notably Solidarity’s Secret: The Women who Defeated Communism in Poland.
