This Ukrainian author, who has been living in Lviv for decades, compiled traditional Jewish, Armenian, Polish and Ukrainian stories about the famous capital of Galicia. These stories help us understand Lviv and its unique richness that comes from hundreds of years of history and the blending of many different cultures. “Legends of Lviv” is a gem and is also aimed at a wide audience: from readers who are interested in pure enjoyment of the book to ethnographers. During the meeting, we will find out about the role of Lviv in Jewish, Polish and Ukrainian cultures, the strength of this city’s mythos which impacts our imagination to this day, and how stories create communities.
The meeting will be led by Nikodem Szczygłowski, a traveler, writer, essayist, and translator. He is the author of essays and publications about the Baltic states, the Balkans and Central Europe.
