Maqamat | Adon Olam

28.06.2024 - 19:00 / Museum of Engineering and Technology, ul. św. Wawrzyńca 15

Maqamat is a unique group of musicians that coalesced around their work together teaching at the Maqamat School of Eastern Music, in Safed, Israel. Under the direction of Elad Levi, with fellow faculty members Nissim Lugasi, Wassim Odeh, Niri Sade and guest vocalist Yohai Cohen, together with former and current students, they bring their personal voices and decades of explorations of  musical traditions from the Middle East. With  breathtaking songs in Hebrew, Persian and Moroccan Arabic, the result incorporates elements from ancient Persian music, the mesmerizing sound of the Arabic oud and the Turkish Ney, alongside rhythms and melodies from North African Andalusian genres.

Adon Olam

An exotic musical journey that crosses boundaries of geography, time and faith — reflecting an Eastern Jewish musical culture that bridges the vibrant spaces of the silk road in Central Asia to the Middle East, to the Mediterranean, to the far West in Andalusia. Unique arrangements and re-linked melodies and texts bring a contemporary intercultural experience that truly reflects historical cultural exchange.
