Mizrach – Jewish Papercuts (PL)
24.06.2024 - 19:00 / Galicia Jewish Museum, ul. Dajwór 18Since this year’s festival is organized under the slogan “Shema Israel” – the words of one of the most important prayers in Judaism – we would like to invite you to an art workshop related to prayer. Mizrach is a symbolic direction where Jerusalem is located, the direction which Jews should turn towards when praying. The same name is used for the physical representation of this concept: an ornamental plaque that is mounted on the eastern wall of a private house or prayer house. Mizrachim are created using various techniques. They can be painted, embroidered or cut out of paper. Mizrach is also the name of one of the traditional Jewish papercuts. During this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to create their own mizrachim using a ready-made template or their own imagination.
