Pendulum (EN/PL) | Exhibition opening

23.06.2024 - 15:00 / Shefter Gallery, ul. Jabłonowskich 6

Pendulum,” an evocative site-specific installation by artist Meydad Eliyahu, intricately weaves together his personal experiences and diverse cultural and geographical influences.

Affected by the war in Israel and the region, Eliyahu’s works embody a constant movement of destruction and construction. He composes within the space using both fictional and realistic images, layering multiple symbols to create and deconstruct meaning. The same images can appear in one work as a self-portrait and in another as a landscape of ruins.

The artist’s movement between Cochin, India, where he explores his family roots, Jerusalem, where he lives and creates, and Krakow, where he has been active as an artist and curator in recent years, allows him to construct this rich tapestry of symbols that serves as a vehicle for exploring themes of migration, identity, and conflict.

Eliyahu’s work in Krakow resonates with the city’s profound Jewish history, now vanished. This dialogue between lost histories—Krakow’s Jewish heritage and Cochin’s vanished Jewish community—reflects Eliyahu’s exploration of memory, absence, and the passage of time.
