The Space of an Image: “One Life” (EN/PL)
24.06.2024 - 19:00 / Galicia Jewish Museum, ul. Dajwór 18In 1938, a young British man named Nicholas Winton finds out during a visit to Prague that thousands of Jewish families who had escaped Germany and Austria are living there in terrible conditions, often without a roof over their heads and without food. With the German invasion of Czechoslovakia looming, the refugees are doomed. Nicholas decides to do whatever it takes to save as many people as he can. Together with a group of co-workers, he organizes transportation for children to travel from Prague to safety in England. How many lives will they be able to save before the borders will be shut down? 50 years later, Nicholas recalls these days, asking himself about the fates of the survivors and blaming himself that he was not able to save all of them. However, unexpectedly, fate writes a touching epilogue to this story.
