This year’s Jewish Culture Festival takes place in a very complex political and social situation in Israel and in the Middle East. Although we do not engage in politics, sometimes it is the politics that catches us and affects our decisions.
And so it happened this year. That is why we decided to give up this year’s “Shalom at Szeroka”, as the situation in the Middle East provokes many people to involve in extreme behaviors. This decision was taken after consulting the police, municipal police and security services – to guarantee security in such a specific area as Szeroka street, with its beer gardens, narrow passages and great amount of electronic equipment, is extremely difficult.
For more than 30 years, “Shalom at Szeroka” has been the celebration of peace and friendship. However, we must not expose those who want to show their respect and love for the Jewish culture to the risk of being confronted by those who do not respect it.
Please, be with us at this year’s JCF and wait for “Shalom at Szeroka” till the next year.
